People make parkrun...

Today was my 62nd parkrun - not bad but insignificant compared to Dominic Wright who reached the 250 milestone today and celebrated by taking it easy as one of the tail runners. Great job Dominic - here's to the next 250..!

I was joined once again by my lovely daughter Katie, both christening our new running shoes - how flashy we looked and how exciting! You know what they say.. if you can't play, dress up!!

Before the start I got chatting to Andrew who told me he was recovering from a short stay in hospital with a back problem and before that a triple heart bypass. A former sprinter in his younger days, Andrew's parkrun goal is to walk the 5k course unaided by Christmas. Go for it Andrew..!

Then a few words with Andy Ireland, former headteacher at Westfield School, who starts a new job on Monday at the Sheffield Inclusion Centre after a difficult period over the past year. Good luck Andy..

Then with Tom Downes who continues with his groundbreaking work at the Hallamshire hospital and NHS trust - such a nice guy and such important work.

At the finish I was greeted by Rachel who told me to hurry up and stay in line. There's nothing quite like being told what to do by a bossy women - I should know, I've been married to one for 24 years (P.S. I love you Ailsa..!).

People really do make the parkrun don't they? - the running is almost incidental, for me anyway...

Had to dash off today so no time for coffee and further chats. The carpet in the spare room needed changing and new light sockets required for the whole house so we can transfer to LED - saving a few pennies and doing our bit for the environment. Are you listening Donald Trump? - start learning from the climate change scientists and stop playing politics with the future of the planet . In fact go one better, jump off a cliff you arrogant pig (sorry but it just had to be said!).

Hopefully you are enjoying my blogs - some feedback would be welcomed - please use the comments box below..

Until next time - happy parkrunning...

  1. Could read this one no problem Chris. Andrew Moncrieff has been a fixture at Hallam since the inception - he was our tailwalker before we officially had one and was instrumental in encouraging loads of people to keep coming.

  2. A fantastically varied post exploring many of the joys of Parkrun. You could experiment with a weekly vlog.
