The tour continues...

 Back to Concord this week with my daughter Katie in search of that elusive 25 mins barrier. A beautiful spring day - bright, sunny and cool ("Much like you" I hear you say. Sadly not!!).

We arrived a few mins early, just in time for a friendly chat with Luke the A and E nurse who, when asked, proudly told us that he had recently completed the Sheffield half marathon (his first) in a creditable 2 hours 40 - well done Luke!

After the normal briefing and a spontaneous round of applause for young Oliver, running his 10th parkrun, we set off at quite a pace completing the first kilometre  in 4:28 before reverting to a more normal and manageable speed. We arrived at the finish in 24:43 with Katie delighted (and somewhat exhausted!) to have achieved her goal - not quite on a par with Roger Bannister at Iffley Road all those years ago, but not far off!! 

Brief chats ensured with Angela, the race director, Neil, one of the volunteers and Jude, a member of Pennistone Running Club, who had been collecting points for the club's parkrun competition - I didn't know such things existed.

Half way home Katie announced she had left her fleece at the finish, so we drove back to Concord in search of the offending item - sadly to no avail. Hopefully one of the volunteers will have picked it up and we can retrieve it at a later date. 

 From next week my tour will be extending beyond Sheffield, starting with Rother Valley - anyone fancy joining me..?

Learning from life, death and funny people I will remember this past week as one in which we said farewell to some great and funny people. First, Professor Stephen Hawking whose work has transformed our understanding of the universe and our place within it. Exercise and relaxation are good for your health  I'm writing the early part of this on Friday evening sitting relaxing at Forge Dam listening to the sound of water pouring out of the pond and down into the city - very therapeutic. In my last blog I spoke about not feeling so good and some of the underlying reasons - mental exhaustion, the weather and aspects of my personality that I have learnt to live with.  Well I’m pleased to say that after a month which for long periods have felt like living under a dark cloud, I am feeling much better.
